524 - Wormleighton

the fog apparent half a mile away
was enough to make it strange country
altered from the one I knew. I would say
I was anywhere between Daventry

and Bicester rearranged - and deeper
down those rivers before they reach their plain
and sea. my course took me down a steeper
descent onto flat terrain with hills lain

out like tumuli. that was Warwickshire
and Wormleighton - stretched out to rest
beneath its wood. it never occurred
to me to know the time or where I had best

end that hike. when I left the coombs to reach
fog’s horizon - I knew all death could teach.
